I'm playing a little bit of catch-up with information-sharing due to a busy month and a few technical difficulties. April was Healthy Living Month in District 64. At Carpenter, we celebrated Health and Nutrition, Go Green, Neat to Use Your Feet, and Screen Free Weeks. Our students completed pledge cards every week to demonstrate how they were individually living healthier lives this month and a raffle was held each week where 6 pledge card winners were chosen. Carpenter hosted a Bike Helmet sale where 265 bike helmets were sold to families throughout District 64. Mrs. Farrell's class (1st grade) walked during lunch and recess to celebrate Neat to Use Your Feet Week while others recognized their own efforts on their pledge cards. Healthy Living Month finished with Screen Free Week. Carpenter hosted night activities every night to encourage families to get away from their screens and gather at Carpenter. You may have already read about our Book Fair that we hosted on Monday 4/27 and Tuesday 4/28. The Board of Education also joined us at Carpenter on Monday for their monthly meeting. Home Depot came out to Carpenter and provided a craft activity for families to work on in our south gym while Park Ridge Park District sponsored 2 nights of "Stay and Play" recreation activities for our students in our north gym. We had a Science Fair where students shared their experiments. Lastly, our week and month ended with a fantastic Talent Show that had over 35 wonderful acts of dancing, singing, music, karate, comedy, and more. I hope that everyone continues to live healthy lifestyles. With this improving weather, get outside and spend time with your families walking, playing, and bike riding, especially with your new helmets!
I wanted to say a special thanks to our PTO and all of our parent volunteers who made the month extra special. Our PTO provided money to help support the prizes throughout the month. They also provided countless hours of volunteer support to make sure that the activities ran smoothly. Thank you to Home Depot and the Park Ridge Park District for their volunteer support of our Screen Free Week activities!
