This fall, District 64 initiated a Middle School Review as part of the 2020 Vision Strategic Plan. The review is linked to Objective 1: To Implement an Engaging, Motivating, and Challenging Educational Program that prepares our students to achieve success in high school and beyond.
To help inform the Review Committee's work and the administration's spring recommendation to the Board of Education, District 64 is inviting all parent/guardians, staff and community members to participate in a survey focused on the middle school mission. The survey will be conducted as a Thoughtexchange online conversation open through Tuesday, November 14.
"We want to hear from you about how we are fulfilling our middle school mission and your ideas for improvement," according to Superintendent Laurie Heinz. "We encourage all parents/guardians, staff and community members to join this conversation -- and to share the link with others so they can participate, too," she added.

In its work thus far, the Review Committee defined District 64's middle school mission. A mission helps clarify our purpose and guide our work. Our D64 middle school mission is based on the characteristics of effective middle schools as outlined by the Association of Middle Level Education -- the foremost organization focused on how schools can best meet the unique needs of its adolescent learners.
The mission statement -- as well as information on the committee’s activities to-date -- can be found on the Middle School Review webpage. You will also find helpful background information on the structure of our middle school schedule and our middle school class offerings along with other FAQs.
District 64 previously conducted a Thoughtexchange in spring 2016 about our 2020 Vision Strategic Plan objectives. Since then, the process has been streamlined: you will be able to share thoughts, review and rate thoughts of others, then discover top thoughts right away. You will be able to move between the three questions, and even re-enter the conversation again later to participate further as other people contribute their ideas. Because this process will be live from November 1– 14, you can watch the conversation as it grows and changes during this time period.
