All District 64 third grade students will have an opportunity to participate in "TEACH THE PEACH" day at Maine South High School on Friday, February 9. More than 500 District 64 students have read James and The Giant Peach by Roald Dahl in class to prepare for a day of drama, art, music and broadcasting workshops and to attend a special midday performance of the play.
This classic story is being brought to life by a cast, crew, pit and production team of more than 115 students participating in this Maine South Fine Arts production.
"We are thrilled about the opportunity to partner with Maine South this year," according to Assistant Superintendent for Student Learning Lori Lopez. "This unique day offers students a rigorous and engaging English Language Arts experience as well as the opportunity to learn more about the arts. Our third graders are really looking forward to their upcoming field trip," Dr. Lopez added.
Third graders were invited to submit designs for an official show poster and program cover. The winning entry was from Roosevelt student Natalia Syjud. All entries will be displayed in the lobby during the performance weekend.
Performances open to the community are scheduled for Thursday, February 8 through Saturday, February 10 at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $7; tickets are available at the door.
