Over the past four weeks, the eighth grade Husky team has collected over 7,000 plastic shopping bags that will be made into sleeping mats for homeless people. The staff and students are in the process of turning 4,000 these bags into "plarn" (plastic bags cut into strips, tied together, and wound up to be used by the crocheters). We have approximately 3000 other bags that are getting flattened and counted. The team believes that they have meet their goal of making enough "plarn" to create sleeping mats for 10 people. The volunteers at New Life for Old Bags have been really helpful, and are going to be using the "plarn" to crocheting the mats.
