In celebration of Veterans Day, Emerson Middle School's homeroom period during the second week of November allowed students the opportunity to pay homage to the men and women who have served and are serving our country. Emerson families were invited to submit a photo and description of a family member currently serving or who has served in the past to be honored in a video which can be viewed below. Students watched this tribute video during homeroom.
In addition, students learned about the Honor Flight Chicago program. This program helps ensure the veterans going on an Honor Flight have the best day possible. Emerson students did their part by writing letters for the “Mail Call” portion of the veteran’s experience.
This service learning project was a great way for students to demonstrate the behaviors of our S.O.A.R.S. matrix, especially respect, empathy, and self-awareness. This video was made by our Instructional Technology Coach, Angel Villareal. Thank you to all families and staff who contributed to this video and to all of the men and women who have served!
