District 64 confirms death of Field Student

Park Ridge-Niles School District 64 is confirming the death of one of its students, Katherine Babich. Kate passed away unexpectedly on Monday, June 27 while attending 2nd-5th grade Cheer Camp at Maine South High School. She had just completed first grade at Field School.

“All of us at District 64 are saddened by the loss of one of our students, and extend our deepest sympathies to her family,” according to Superintendent Laurie Heinz. “Kate is known as an inspired learner, a leader and a good friend to everyone in her class,” Dr. Heinz added. “I know her classmates and Field staff will miss her dearly.”

District 64 has made counselors available at the school today for students, families and staff members, and has distributed resources to all Field School families on speaking to children in an age appropriate way about grief and loss.
