The District 64 Board of Education is expected to appoint former Board member Bob Johnson of Park Ridge to a vacant seat on the Board during a public meeting on Monday, December 10, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. at Jefferson School (multipurpose room), 8200 N. Greendale Avenue, Niles.
Mr. Johnson was among a trio of candidates who applied for appointment to the Board. The Board conducted a special meeting on November 29, 2018 to publicly review the applications received and interview the candidates during the open meeting.
“We thank all three of the community members who stepped forward to offer their service to District 64 during these short five months, and sincerely urge them to seek election to the Board in the upcoming election or in future years,” Board President Borrelli noted.
Mr. Johnson will serve until the new Board is seated following the upcoming municipal elections in April. He replaces Eastman Tiu, who resigned on November 15, 2018.
Mr. Johnson previously served on the Board from 2014-17, and had completed all required member trainings.
“The consensus of the Board was that Bob’s very recent service on the Board combined with his familiarity with the topics expected to come before us during this period will allow him to make a quick and easy transition,” Dr. Borrelli noted.
“In fact, Bob will now be able to see the completion of many Health Life Safety and facility projects -- along with a financial funding framework -- put in place during his earlier time on the Board, as we prepare to approve a full slate of school construction projects for summer 2019 and provide financing for that work at our December meeting,” Dr. Borrelli added.
“Our Board appreciates his coming forward and we look forward to having him contribute once again around the Board table,” he noted.
