"Parent University" Spotlights Ways to Help Your Child Build Great Reading Habits at Home

Whether you have a reluctant reader, a child who devours books, or one that’s in between, Park Ridge-Niles School District 64’s “Reading 101” Parent University on Monday, November 17 will offer easy ways and identify resources to help your child build great reading habits at home.

Open to parents of students in all grades preK-8 and community members, Reading 101 will be held from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at Franklin School (Library), 2401 Manor Lane, Park Ridge.  It’s conveniently timed so that you may stay for the District 64 Board of Education meeting that follows at 7:30 p.m., too.

District 64 believes that good readers are created through a strong partnership between school, home, and the community.  “Reading 101” will help parents learn the habits of good readers and find out what it means to be a reader in the Common Core State Standards era.  The session also will help parents discover resources available to families through the schools or in the community.

The session will be presented by Meghan Keefer, District 64 English Language Arts Curriculum Specialist, and Brittney Joyce, Washington School Library Information Specialist.

The evening is free and open to all adult members of the community.
