Student achievement improved in 2015-16

District 64 student achievement in reading and math improved significantly in 2015-16, according to recently released reports on both the Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) assessments as well as the state's PARCC tests.

Assistant Superintendent for Student Learning Lori Lopez presented the results at the August 8, 2016 Board of Education Committee-of-the-Whole meeting. View the short presentation.

Here are the highlights:

  • MAP - The District tracks both status (how our students' average score compares to the average score of students in other schools) as well as growth (how our students' scores changed from fall to spring). In 2015-16, District 64 students continued to maintain a high "competitive" status score in reading, moving from the 91st to 93rd percentile, while growth moved from the below average 39th percentile to the above average 55th percentile. In math, the District increased its MAP status score slightly, rising to the 88th percentile, while improving its already exceptional level of growth to the 68th percentile.
  • PARCC - On the Illinois state assessment, 59% of the District 64 students tested met or exceeded expectations in English Language Arts and 58% did so in math. Comparisons to prior years are limited, as the 2016 assessment was substantially changed from the state's 2015 version.
