Lincoln students write their way to the silver screen

A group of Lincoln 8th graders took a field trip to the Pickwick Theater last week, to showcase some of their short films that were created during LA classes. The Film Fest included watching a dozen or so student-created movies and then coming together to see which were the best of the best.

The movie unit was a 3-4 week project broken down into three parts:

  • Brainstorming and screenplay writing
  • Film study ( camera angles/types of shots) and the filming of their movies
  • Editing

Of course, enjoying the finished products was a blast, but it took a lot of work! The unit challenged students as writers, visual storytellers, editors, and creative collaborators.

Here are the awards handed out at the Pickwick:

Best Story: Hoop Dreams

  • Script: written and edited by Lucas Runtz
  • Film Director and Cinematographer: Lucas Runtz
  • Editors and Actors: Braeden Cremins, Charlie Kolz, Nick McCarthy, Nick Mitchell, Lucas Runtz

Best Audio/Visual Effects: Grim’s Girly Night

  • Meghan Kennelly, Sophia Tornabene, Maddie Welke, Katie Will, & Jasmine Dutt

Best Overall Movie: Concert Catastrophe

  • Riley Story & Phoebe Welsh

A special thank you to the Lincoln PTO for generously funding the rental of the Pickwick Theater!
