Carpenter School will be hosting a special evening family reading night with the author of its first-ever "One School, One Book" reading program on Monday, October 19 from 6:30 - 8 p.m.
The Carpenter PTO generously provided all 315 Carpenter families and all staff members with a copy of the book, Masterpiece by Elise Broach. Ms. Broach will visit for a family reading night, and will return to school on Tuesday, October 20 for student assemblies.
At the family evening, Ms. Broach will be discussing the journey from the initial idea for the book to the finished novel. Families will have an opportunity to create their own Masterpiece bookmark, go on a Masterpiece ”art heist” scavenger hunt with friends, and enjoy other activities.
Masterpiece is about friendship, which has a strong connection for Carpenter's K-5 elementary students. It also has been nominated this year for the statewide Bluestem Award, which is selected by students in 3rd through 5th grade. There are 20 books nominated each year; students statewide read the books and then vote for their favorite. Carpenter students have been participating in this reading program for a few years.
Also while in District 64, Ms. Broach will visit Washington School to meet with students during the day on October 19.
