District 64 is proud to co-sponsor 2017 Healthy Living Month, which will be celebrated in Park Ridge during April. Healthy Living Month is a community-wide initiative that focuses on building awareness of healthy behavior choices through education. The month targets health, nutrition, fitness, safety, and understanding the environment.
The official proclamation of Healthy Living Month will occur at the Park Ridge City Council meeting on Wednesday, April 5 at 7:00 p.m. District 64 representatives will accept the proclamation.
The weekly themes for 2017 include:
- April 3-7 HEALTH & NUTRITION WEEK - Students eat more fruits and vegetables!
- April 10-14 NEAT TO USE YOUR FEET WEEK - Students walk to and from school. This week, District 64 will participate in the American Heart Association’s service learning program, Jump Rope for Heart. Students in grades K-3 are also invited to participate in the Park Ridge Police Department's annual bike helmet coloring contest (entries due April 13).
- April 17-21 GO GREEN WEEK - Each day students do something good for the Earth and celebrate Earth Day on April 22.
- April 24-28 SCREEN-FREE WEEK - Students refrain from screens and enjoy other activities.
To encourage students to make a personal effort to incorporate healthy habits in their lives, District 64 elementary school students complete weekly pledge cards to be entered into the Healthy Living Month school raffle. Individual school PTO/A's also schedule family-friendly events during the month, too.

Will you be bicycling, skate boarding or roller blading this spring?
The District 64 Traffic Safety Committee urges parents to please review these quick and easy tips on how to fit a bike helmet correctly. Although a bike helmet sale and fitting will not be conducted this year, information on how to purchase low cost helmets and have a free custom fitting through Lutheran General Hospital is included with the helmet tips!
As a reminder, District 64 policy requires students to wear helmets while riding and/or using bicycles, roller blades, scooters, skate boards and similar devices while going from home to school, while on school property, and while going from school to their first intended point of destination.
