Parents Invited to 2015-16 Curriculum Nights

District 64 will be extending a warm welcome to approximately 4,400 students as the new school year begins on Tuesday, August 18. The District also is extending an equally enthusiastic invitation to their parents to attend annual Curriculum Nights during the first weeks of school, too.

“Having parents as our partners is critical to laying the groundwork for a successful year for every child,” according to Superintendent Laurie Heinz. “Our teachers are anxious to establish communication between home and school, so these face-to-face evenings are a perfect way to develop that connection,” she added.

“Attending a back-to-school evening is one of the most effective ways parents can help their child be ready for the challenges of a new grade and for our sixth graders, for a new school,” Dr. Heinz noted. “So when parents are checking down the list of school supplies, I encourage them to also check that this date is on their calendars, too.  Being actively involved in your child’s learning is critical to their overall success,” she suggested.

The evening events exclusively for parents/guardians provide a preview of what children will be learning and how District 64 is implementing the 4 C’s of 21st Century instruction: communication, collaboration, creativity and critical thinking. Parents will review the grade-level learning objectives for their child, and are briefed on other important school and classroom routines.
