District 64 invites families of its youngest residents from birth through age 5 to check how their children’s skills are progressing.
The free screenings are designed for parents to assess how their child’s early cognitive, social-emotional, communication, and motor skills are developing. Parents who are wondering if their child is developing on time, or if the behaviors they see are appropriate for the child’s age, are encouraged to contact District 64’s Jefferson School at 847-318-5360 for an appointment.
The early childhood screenings are offered by age group:
- Infant and toddler developmental screening for birth through age 3 will be conducted by appointment on Wednesday, October 14 from 9 a.m. to noon. A second screening is planned for April 13.
- Preschool screening for children ages 3-5 will be conducted one Tuesday per month. Upcoming dates are: November 10, December 8, January 12, February 9, March 8, April 12 and May 10.
At the screening, District 64 staff members will invite you and your child to join one team member at a time as we observe different skills. Our team includes an occupational therapist, speech/language therapist, psychologist, and social worker. We will screen your child’s preschool skills, including speech and language; thinking skills; and motor coordination. We will also observe behaviors and screen your child’s hearing and vision. Following the screening, a team member will contact parents to share the results and, if needed, offer recommendations about further testing for parents to consider.
