District 64 was fortunate to win $200 grants for four schools this year to benefit our ongoing green and sustainability efforts. Here are some of the ways the funds will be put to good use:
- Roosevelt - Funds will be used to purchase water bottles for students to encourage use of the new filtered water bottle filler stations installed over the summer.
- Washington - Funds are earmarked to replace recycling bins to encourage students and staff to sort waste.
- Field - Students will be helping to choose how the funds will be spent to encourage support for their school-wide recycling initiatives.
- Lincoln - Student Green Team members will be using the funding to provide items to promote a waste-free lunch, such as reusable water bottles, sandwich bags, and lunch bags, and to continue their other projects related to recycling, waste, energy, and sustainability.
The competitive grants are awarded by the Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County (SWANCC).
