Highlights include:
- Summer projects approved for Field and Lincoln - Field School's main entry will be upgraded this summer to include a secure vestibule as part of an office/classroom renovation project, which also will include the addition of a new multipurpose room adjacent to the existing main gym. Hallway flooring replacement work at the school also was approved along with other Health Life Safety (HLS) projects. At Lincoln, the school's intercom system will be replaced, an ADA restroom will be added, and HLS classroom/corridor renovation work will be completed on the third floor.
- Elementary classroom areas compared - The Board reviewed a comparison of elementary school facilities, focusing on each school's enrollment, and the counts and sizes of regular classrooms, gyms, auditoriums, Learning Resource Centers, band/orchestra, music and art spaces to provide an overview of the types of spaces now in use across the District.
- Washington School enrollment and facility concerns to be studied by new committee - The Board reached consensus to defer seeking bids for renovating Washington’s auditorium into classroom space and adding a multipurpose room/gym addition, and instead created a Washington School Study Committee to immediately discuss short-term plans to accommodate student enrollment increases projected for 2019-20 and to seek a longer-term solution for the school moving forward. The Board directed that Superintendent Laurie Heinz and Chief School Business Official Luann Kolstad convene a study committee comprised of: a Board member; Washington parents, teachers and administrators; District administrators of special education and facilities; and architects. The committee is expected to report to the Board at the May 20 meeting.
