D64 announces retirement of Student Services Director

The Park Ridge-Niles School District 64 Board of Education at its November 13, 2017 meeting accepted the retirement letter of Ms. Jane Boyd as Director of Student Services effective Friday, December 1. Ms. Boyd is in her fourth year with District 64, and is wrapping up a lengthy career in special education as a teacher and administrator in many suburban school districts.

“Ms. Boyd’s depth of experience, approach to problem-solving, continuous improvement mindset, and emphasis on research-based best practices enhanced her leadership during a time of change in how student services are delivered in Illinois, and her work will have a lasting impact in District 64,” according to Dr. Laurie Heinz, Superintendent.

“We greatly appreciate the momentum Ms. Boyd brought to the student services department, including expanding the use of co-teaching where regular classroom teachers work alongside special education teachers to instruct students together, and transitioning District 64 to the new Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) model of instruction that benefits all students,” Dr. Heinz noted.

“Working in partnership with our student learning and instructional technology administrators, Ms. Boyd was deeply engaged in implementing the District 64 2020 Vision Strategic Plan initiatives related to Core-Plus, which realigns how students with special needs access our core curriculum, and provided leadership for our Social Emotional Learning Committee’s recommendations for a new Second Step curricular resource that is being implemented with all District 64 students beginning this year,” she noted.

“We wish her nothing but the best as she enters retirement,” Dr. Heinz added. District 64 will appoint an interim director to lead the department for the remainder of the 2017-18 school year and will launch a search for a new director early in 2018 to join the District 64 leadership team on July 1, 2018.
