The District 64 Board of Education voted on Thursday to hire Maria Soulias as the new assistant principal at Emerson Middle School. Soulias will start on August 1st.
Soulias has an extensive background in middle school education. Since 2007, Soulias has spent her career serving as a middle school math and tier 3 math intervention teacher at Mannheim Middle School in District 83.
In addition to serving as a teacher, Soulias has held numerous leadership positions. She was the lead member of these District 83 committees: Parent Involvement Committee, Schools to Watch Committee, C.A.R.E Committee, School Improvement Committee, RtI Leadership Committee, PRIDE Committee, COVID Task Force Committee, and Scheduling Committee.
- Soulias also designed and taught District 83 staff training on: Flipped Learning, John Hattie Philosophy – Learning Intentions and Success Criteria, and John Hattie Philosophy – Questioning Techniques for Classroom Teachers.
- She created and led professional development sessions for middle school teachers entitled – Problem Solving in Mathematics.
“As you can see from her resume, she has extensive middle school experience,” said District 64 Superintendent Dr. Eric Olson. “You can also see by the number of committees and coaching and all of that she’s an ‘all in’ person.
“We’re very happy to welcome her to the administrative team,” said Olson.
Soulias earned her Bachelors of Arts in Elementary Education from Northeastern Illinois University in 2004 and her Masters of Arts in School Leadership from Concordia University in 2011.
