D64 Shining Star - Roosevelt's Aria

D64 Shining Star - Roosevelt's Aria Mehta

Time and time again, teachers and friends of Aria Mehta see the 5th grader displaying qualities that embody the D64 mission to discover, learn, grow, and care. We were thrilled to honor her as Roosevelt’s D64 Shining Star.

Presenting the honor at the February School Board meeting, Roosevelt Principal Dr. Kevin Dwyer gathered some stories from those who know her best. First up, Roosevelt Teacher Caroline Mahon, “Aria goes above and beyond for every assignment she does. She cares about learning, not because she wants to get a good grade or praise from her teacher, but because she values the process of discovery.”

Another teacher, Kristin Park, wrote, “Aria has always shown a thirst for knowledge. Her dedication to grow and improve is exceptional.”

Aria recently came to Dr. Dwyer’s office to learn more about Roosevelt’s history as part of a writing project. “I started telling her some basic facts, and I could see the gleam in your eye. You wanted more. So, I stopped the conversation. I said, let's get up. We walked out of the office across the hall to a display case proudly displaying Roosevelt’s 90-year history.”

While thumbing through the binder filled with Roosevelt's facts, Aria asked to take it home for to read through it all. “That moment was about you investing in discovery and learning and not about a grade,” said Dr. Dwyer.

Way to go, Aria!

“She cares about the work she does and how it will make her a better person and our school and world a better place.”
